Microwave Device Technology

Our challenge was to “refresh the brand” to show an existing customer base that MDT is still the same strong company. Since many of the smaller supply companies have consolidated, leaving fewer suppliers, the OEMs were losing confidence that suppliers would still be around when they needed them. In addition, the goal was to increase customers on the US west coast and Asia. 

MDT produces diodes for microwave detectors OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), such as radar guns and automatic door openers.

For brand recognition, MDT wanted to keep as much of the original logo as possible. DDG was challenged with the directive to keep the three letters, the red color and the oval. The previous logo included a serif logotype MDT in white on a red oval. The new logo kept the original color and feel while updating the look with a more modern sanserif font and a looser interpretation of the oval by defining the edges with arcs to create sense of movement and expansion. The new company tagline was incorporated into the design of the logo.

To help establish corporate credibility in the Asian market, DDG designed a brochure as upper level collateral, positioning MDT as an industry leader with the engineering experience to help its customers provide innovative solutions in a variety of microwave applications. We integrated the essence of the logo elements into a collage of components produced by MDT.  The inside is a description of the qualifications and capabilities of the company, rather than a brochure about components.

Restructuring the website to focus on ease- of-accessibility to key information supported a growing need for design engineers to use the web as a resource for parts specs during design. Product details were provided in over 150 spec sheets DDG created and made available as either a direct read or downloadable pdfs. The previous web was simply an informative site. Restructuring the website to become an interactive resource for design engineers expanded business within existing customers.

The new market presence that DDG created for MDT was immediately evident to their existing customers while attracting new customers. The booth, in combination with the other new marketing material, positioned them as the major component provider to the microwave device industry.
The booth design was flexible to work in both traditional 10 or 20 foot booths as well as smaller regional shows by using combinations of a full backwall and/or fabric banners. The backwall is a general corporate message. We designed 5 product-line specific banners that are to be used in combinations that are appropriate to each show.
